This design made it ideal for storing clothing and other belongings while traveling. Trunks like these were commonly used by passengers on ships, carriages, and trains throughout the 19th and early 20th centuries.
The trunk still bears multiple destination stickers, including one from the Holland-America Line featuring a large sailing ship. Additionally, the original owner’s initials are painted on one side.
