  • Antique Vintage 18th Century 1700s Whaling Whale Hand Wrought Forged Iron Harpoon Tool Speer Curiosity Oddity Collection Decor

Antique 18th Century Forged Whaling Harpoon

    Antique Early 18th-Century Whaling Harpoon

No, this isn’t an orc spear or some fantasy movie prop—though you might consider it just as brutal. This crude but fascinating tool is an authentic 18th-century whaling harpoon, used in real hunts during the 1700s.

While we can (hopefully) all agree that the hunting of these majestic creatures is a grim chapter in history, the whaling industry played a significant role in shaping European economies. Whale oil was a vital commodity at the time, used in the production of everyday necessities such as lamp oil, candles, and soap. It was considered essential, even if we now recognize the devastating ecological consequences of centuries of overhunting in Arctic waters.

Because of its dark legacy, this rare artifact carries mixed emotions. Yet, it remains a powerful piece of history—one that echoes with tales of dangerous voyages, icy seas, and the relentless pursuit of profit and survival.

This harpoon was hand-forged in iron and features a conical socket for mounting a wooden shaft. Its rugged, functional design reflects the harsh realities of whaling in the age of sail.

It would make a striking and conversation-starting addition to any collection of maritime antiques, historical weaponry, or cabinet of curiosities.

After nearly two centuries, the harpoon shows the expected signs of wear, with a richly oxidized patina. The surface has been gently cleaned to remove coarse rust and treated with antique wax for protection and a subtle sheen.

  • Antique Vintage Early 1900’s Mendel Compartment Wardrobe Sailor Steamer Trunk Chest Luggage Case Suitcase Decor Drawers Travel Cabinet

Antique Early 1900’s MendelTrunx Steamer Trunk

    Early 1900’s wardrobe steamer trunk

This trunk was manufactured in the early 1900s by MendelTrunx in Cincinnaty, USA.

Its sturdy, compact design unfolds to reveal extendable clothing rails with hangers and a wooden suitcase on the bottom on one side, while the other side features built-in drawers. This design made it ideal for storing clothing and other belongings while traveling. Trunks like these were commonly used by passengers on ships, carriages, and trains throughout the 19th and early 20th centuries.

The trunk still bears a Cunard Line destination sticker featuring a large steamer ship, indicating that it once departed from Montreal aboard the Ivernia, which operated from 1899 until 1917, when it was sunk by a U-boat during World War I. The original owner’s initials are also painted on one side.

While this piece is still functional for travel, it also makes a unique furniture statement—perfect for storing your wardrobe or even repurposing as a nightstand!

After nearly a century of journeys across the world, the trunk shows signs of use and wear. However, its beautifully aged patina only adds to its charm. To preserve and enhance its character, the surface has been treated with antique wax, providing a protective layer and a subtle glossy finish.
