Antique early 1900’s Black Forest folk art wolf inkwell
This antique wolf inkwell was traditionally hand carved out of wood in the Black forest area in Germany or Switserland. It’s a fine example of the great craftsmanship the area got famous for and shows beautiful details like its glass eyes. It was designed in the shape of a wolf that can be hinged open and fits a small ink bottle inside. A pen can be placed inside its mouth.

After more than a century the wood carving shows signs of wear.
In my eyes the patina it acquired due to time only adds more charm to it!
A small piece at the back of the wolfs head broke off but was glued back on again.
The inkwell is treated with antique wax to give its surface a protective layer and a subtle glossy finish.
