• Vintage 50s 1950s French Leather SNCF Railway Railroads Train Mechanics Engineers Tool Bag Shoulder Rugged Style Brown Rustic Decor Gift

Vintage 50’s French SNCF Mechanics Bag

Vintage 50s French leather tool bag

This authentic vintage tool bag was issued by the SNCF (Société Nationale des Chemins de fer Français), the French national railway company, and used by mechanics to carry their tools on the job. Crafted from thick, high quality saddle leather, the bag features one large main compartment and a smaller front pocket for smaller tools or essentials. In front it still shows SNCF, stamped into the leather.

Its utilitarian, no-nonsense design makes it a striking decorative piece, ideal for rustic or industrial-style interiors — whether in a workshop, living room, or retail setting.

After nearly a century, the bag remains in solid, usable condition, though it shows signs of heavy use and age. The leather has developed a beautifully worn patina, enhancing its rugged, timeworn character. One of the original front buckles was missing and has been carefully replaced with a new one in a matching dark brown tone.

To preserve the leather and enrich its appearance, the bag has been thoroughly cleaned with saddle soap and treated with grease and beeswax. The result is a supple, conditioned surface with a subtle, protective sheen — ready to be displayed or used once again.

  • Vintage 50s Dr Maertens Engineer BootsVintage 50s 1950s German Dr Maertens Pre Dr Martens Leather Engineer Working Boots Brown Germany Rugged Work Wear Style Luftpolster Shuh

Vintage 50s Dr Maertens Engineer Boots

Vintage 1950s German Dr Maertens working boots

These extremely rare engineer-style work boots date back to the period when the company was still based in Germany. They were designed by Dr. Klaus Märtens, a German army doctor who developed the concept of air-cushioned soles in 1945 to ease the pain of an injury he sustained during the war. Together with his business partner Dr. Herbert Funck, he began producing and selling these innovative boots in Germany in the late 1940s and early 1950s. His groundbreaking invention and brand name were eventually adopted by the British Griggs Company, which would later launch the now-iconic “Dr. Martens” brand.

This unique pair features a high-leg design with leather laces that extend into a wrap-around strap fastened with a buckle. At the top, the boots are finished with additional leather strap closures. They are equipped with the signature air-cushioned soles, stamped with the original German inscriptions: “Benzin, Oel, Säure STAbil – DR MAERTENS, LUFT POLSTER SCHUH.”

A true piece of fashion history, these boots would make an exceptional addition to any vintage footwear collection, museum display, or serve as inspiration for a fashion designer.

Despite their age, the boots show minimal signs of wear and remain in remarkably good condition. The right boot’s buckle shows some surface wear, but is still fully functional and secure. Overall, they have clearly been very well preserved over the decades.
