Antique 19th Century Black Forest Tobacco Jar

Antique 19th Century Black Forest folk art tobacco jar

This antique jar was traditionally hand carved out of a single piece of hard wood in the Black forest area in Germany or Switserland. It’s a fine example of the great craftsmanship the area got famous for and shows beautiful details like the decorations. The tobacco jar is shaped like a tiny wooden barrel and features a fitting lid.

This unique jar would be the perfect decor piece to display on your desk or in your cabin!

After more than a century the carving remains in used condition and shows signs of wear. In my eyes the patina it acquired over the years only adds more charm to it!

Saddly a piece broke off of the wooden lid. The jar is treated with antique wax to give the wooden surface a subtle glossy finish.
