This beautiful flag dates to the early 20th century, around the time of the First World War, and would have been flown aboard a British merchant or naval vessel.

Known as the Red Ensign, or “Red Duster,” this flag has been used as the civil ensign of the United Kingdom since the early 18th century. It was traditionally flown by British merchant and passenger ships, and remains one of the most recognizable symbols of Britain’s maritime history.

A characterful and historically significant piece, it would make a striking decorative statement when displayed in a rustic interior, shop, or as part of a maritime collection.

After more than a century, the ensign remains in good condition, showing age-appropriate wear. Over time, the fabric has faded and developed a soft patina that enhances its authentic character. The flag shows several small holes consistent with age and use.
