Vintage 1940′ Swiss Army Medical Bag
Vintage 1940′ Swiss army medical compartment bag.
This bag comes with quite a story! At first it was produced and issued by the Swiss army in 1940.
Wheter the bag has been used in the military is not certain but when in 1953 a disaster struck the Netherlands when multible dikes broke during a heavy storm and huge parts of the country flooded, the bag was sent to the affected areas to supply the wounded.
That’s how it ended up in the Netherlands all those years ago and probably contributed to saving lives after a huge natural disaster!
The clever design of this bag can be folded open and is equipped with
multible compartments for storing medical instruments and supplies.
With leather straps the bag can be secured while folded up.
It also features an adjustable leather shoulder strap and a leather handle on top.
The front cover of the bag has been painted with a swiss flag and red medical cross.
A true example of Swiss army craftmanship that would fit perfectly into any medical of military collection!
The leather handle is marked with the initials of its maker, place and the year it was produced in: ‘JOH. Rufener – Blumenstein – 40′.
The bag remains in used condition and shows signs of wear and use after being heavily used in 1953’.
The bag shows signs of wear like cracks in the paint of the front cover and some stains in the canvas.
All leather parts have been treated with leather grease and the painted front has been polished with antique wax.
